While each painting is unique and one of a kind, I do enjoy creating mini collections centered on the same theme. This approach allows me to expand on a single idea and gives the opportunity to decorate a room with a cohesive, harmonious look. These series often begin with a subject I enjoyed painting so much that a single canvas simply wasn’t enough, inspiring multiple pieces that together explore different variations, moods, and details. Below are some of my larger, more detailed series paintings, alongside several smaller series featured on the main pages. Swan Lake Series
Spell check: As a former dancer, I had to paint Odette and Odile from Swan Lake — but I didn’t want to reduce them to simple black-and-white swans. I searched through inspiration images to capture the true essence of each character: shy and innocent Odette, seductive and bewitching Odile. The challenge was to portray their contrast while keeping the series cohesive.
Spell check: This painting of “Odette” from Swan Lake was influenced by my years as a dancer and by cherished memories of watching Rudolf Nureyev perform Swan Lake for my 16th birthday. My aim was to capture the shy, innocent beauty of the white swan as she gently hides behind her feathers. This work is the first in a series of two. Original acrylic on canvas, framed in a light wood-toned floater frame. Framed size approximately 20" x 26".
Odile, the Black Swan from Swan Lake. Second in the series, I aimed to capture the same ethereal beauty as Odette, but with the seductive, bewitching edge of the deceptive Black Swan. The color in the small eye is particularly intriguing and adds to the seductiveness I feel. Original acrylic on canvas, framed in a light wood floater frame. Framed dimensions: 20" x 26".
This photorealistic rooster, with vibrant orange hackles and saddle feathers, stands tall and proudly displays his tail. Set against a soft green background, he is part of a companion pair. I love painting roosters, and this one had such a proud stance that I named him "The King." The finished piece gives a French-country vibe and would fit nicely in a kitchen or dining room. French Rooster Series
I love roosters and I love painting roosters. While most of my roosters are Key West–inspired, this particular pair took on a more French sensibility, drawing on the Gallic Rooster — an unofficial national emblem of France that even appears on sports jerseys and other cultural symbols.
This vividly colored rooster, with iridescent green breast and tail feathers and bright orange and red plumage, stands tall on a wooden post. His iridescent green feathers remind me of a finely tailored waistcoat; cocky and confident, he evokes a French prince from a bygone era. The breast and tail feathers are accented with metallic paints to give that iridescent shimmer. Part of a series of two, I used the same soft green background to keep them cohesive. The bright turquoise doors and hot-pink blossoms create a striking contrast against the classic Greek white architecture. I loved painting the bougainvillea and can imagine myself sitting under its shady canopy with my morning coffee or evening cocktail. This is the third in a complementary series. This acrylic on canvas is framed in a white 1" × 1.5" deep gallery frame. Framed size: 19" × 25".
Greek Door Series
The bright blues of Mediterranean skies and painted doors set against bright white, sun-warmed stone buildings, with splashes of color from bougainvillea in full bloom, evoke classic Greece and provide endlessly wonderful inspiration for paintings—one I am certain I will return to again and again.
This rustic wooden door set against the stone archway and cobblestone street screams Mediterranean. The door was my focal point in this painting and has interesting, deep, layered color tones up close. I loved how the shadows danced against the whitewashed walls, and can imagine the stone stairway behind leading up to the rooftop patio. This acrylic on canvas board is framed in a white 1" x 1.5" deep gallery frame. Framed size: 17" x 21".
Old stone whitewashed walls, Typical Greek blue doors and shuttered windows give off that old world charm of bygone mediterranean summers. The glow from the neighboring window hints at a life behind.
Barnyard Series
This cute little Pop-Art mini collection started with the cow, then quickly expanded into a series that evokes the children’s song of “Old MacDonald”. Perfect for a children’s nursery with their bright backgrounds, they would also suite a kitchen or coffee nook. My daughter collects Pigs so this one was painted with her in mind.
This black and white cow painting is one of a set of four barnyard works with a pop art vibe. Think Old MacDonald but with a more sophisticated, modern flair. Although a smaller piece, it packs plenty of interest through its photorealistic style and careful detailing. It would work beautifully in a children’s room or nursery, and also brings a playful, stylish touch to a breakfast nook or coffee bar. This pop-art–style pig with photorealistic details is the fourth in the Barnyard series. Set against a green background with bright pink ears and snout, he completes the collection with charming flair. Key West Cottage Series
I settled in Key West nearly 40 years ago and it continues to be unlike anywhere else. Caribbean, Bahamian, Cuban, and Southern influences mingle surrounded by turquoise waters and lush foliage. Though I no longer live there, I visit often; its vivid colors, roosters, and conch architecture continue inspiring my art.
An iconic Key West conch cottage with colorful turquoise Bahama shutters—a hallmark of Key West and Caribbean architecture—designed to capture cooling breezes while providing shade from the tropical sun. I know I have walked or bicycled past this property on Elizabeth Street hundreds of times during my years in Key West. Acrylic on canvas set in a white floater frame. Framed size: 12" x 15".
This painting is of Andy’s Cabana, across from the Blue Heaven restaurant on Petronia Street in Bahama Village. The color gave me key lime pie vibes—something Blue Heaven is famous for—and it was painted from a photo I took while biking through the neighborhood. I loved painting the lush tropical foliage.
